There were three of us full-time on staff at Homewaters Project, and we all became IslandWood employees once we completed the process of merging the two organizations. The IslandWood Graduate Program in Education for Environment and Community, in partnership with the University of Washington, is a 10-month immersive residency in justice-oriented environmental education; experiential, student-centered learning; and culturally-responsive teaching and curriculum development. IslandWood is a favorite destination for groups who are looking for an outdoor volunteer experience close to Seattle. IslandWood can arrange a volunteer project for groups of 10-50 based on skills and interests. Opportunities include stream and site restoration, trail maintenance, and other customized projects.
